Affinity

Affinity - a spontaneous or natural liking or sympathy for someone or something.

This body of work is not only about the relationships and connections that I have with different people in my life but also with the different processes I work in. These processes are my self-portrait, my content is the relationships that evoke the same type of feeling I get when I make.

I find meaning in repetition and making each repetition unique. I mix colors on my screen while printing. The colors and images I chose to use remind me of the relationship and connection that they represent

Each silver gelatin print was then made in my darkroom by contact printing a digital negative. I then made a developer out of something that has some significance to that person or our relationship. The developers were made with antidepressants, cheap blue raspberry wine, banana peppers, magnesium carbonate along with pickles blended with chocolate syrup.

The window holds nine portraits made on glass with the collodion wet plate process to make ambrotypes. The word ambro means immortal in Greek, I found that very fitting for this concept. These are the ones that live in my soul, they help define my identity in the different roles we play in each other’s lives.

Just as a window lets in light so you can see more clearly, they have allowed me to see myself more clearly.
